CSO KEY MESSAGES REACHING TARGETS - NCPA’s public relations campaign is off to a great start, with advance media relations efforts already paying dividends. Harvest PR recently worked with Food Processing magazine to ensure cottonseed oil was included in its scheduled May article on edible oils. The editor was not previously familiar with cottonseed oil; he included many of the key messages provided: ”Cottonseed oil helps food processors produce trans fat-free foods. With a saturated fat level of 23-28 percent, it is naturally stable without hydrogenation and is “heart healthy,” according to the American Heart Assn. It has a neutral flavor and has been considered the gold standard oil in potato chip production. Flavor stable, cottonseed oil does not experience undesirable flavor reversion. The oil is available in commercial quantities.” To see the article on page 49, go to www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/putman/fp0507/index.php. Food Processing has a circulation of 65,032. Harvest PR also just submitted a “Wild about Cottonseed Oil” column, along with several recipes and photos, to Rural Life magazine (circulation: 125,000). The publication said they would run the feature this fall. Also, Turkey Call, the official publication of the National Wild Turkey Federation, is running a similar article on cottonseed oil in its July/August issue (circulation: 235,000). Our recent press release, “New campaign brings cottonseed oil back into the spotlight,” is showing up in several online and print publications, including: Chef Magazine, Snack and Bakery, Southwest Farm Press, Western Farm Press, Ag Professional and Cotton Farming. After receiving the release, Mid South Farmer requested our Cottonseed Oil Fact Sheet and expressed interested in developing a cottonseed oil story for an upcoming issue. Next up on the PR agenda: Harvest PR is heading to the May 19-22 National Restaurant Association show in Chicago to meet with editors from several influential food publications, such as Restaurants & Institutions and QSR magazine, planting seeds for future positive coverage of cottonseed oil.
