USDA ANNOUNCES FUNDS TO PROMOTE US FOOD AND AG PRODUCTS OVERSEAS - The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service announced on November 15 their FY 2006 allocations of $39 million to 56 U.S. trade organizations to promote U.S. agricultural products overseas. “Developing overseas markets is critical to American agriculture,” said Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns. “These programs support U.S. producer associations so they can tap into market opportunities. Agricultural exports support not only the food and agriculture sectors, but the economy as a whole.” The allocations will be administered under three FAS programs-the Foreign Market Development (FMD) cooperator program, the Technical Assistance for Specialty Crops (TASC) program, and the Quality Samples Program (QSP). Under the FMD Cooperator program, USDA establishes a trade promotion partnership with nonprofit U.S. agricultural trade organizations. Program activities focus on reducing market impediments, improving the processing capabilities of importers, modifying restrictive regulatory codes and standards in foreign markets and identifying new markets or uses for U.S. products. The 50-year-old program has supported market development activities in more than 100 countries worldwide. NCPA has partnered with Cotton Council International under the FMD Program to develop a market for US cottonseed meal in Mexico and for US cotton linters in China.

WHAT'S NEW @ COTTONSEED.COM - NCPA’s consultant in Mexico, Ricardo Silva, reports relatively higher prices for competing products should benefit cottonseed meal sales in the coming months. “Product dealers in Mexico tell me corn and soybean meal prices will make US cottonseed meal more attractive to their customers,” he said. His latest monthly report is available in the Mexico Consultant’s Report section of the Members Only area of the web site….. NCPA’s Cottonseed Calendar shows important upcoming meetings and events and has been updated for 2007…..Supply and demand estimates for cottonseed and cottonseed products are updated for November and available in the Statistics section. Included in the estimates is a forecast for cottonseed crushings for 06/07 are forecast of 2.75 million tons.
