NCPA's
110th ANNUAL CONVENTION - Proposed
amendments to NCPA’s
Trading Rules
have been offered by the membership and will be considered during a
meeting of the Rules Committee on Sunday morning, May 7, at the Annual
Convention in Tucson, Arizona. The
proposed amendments have been sent to all members, and a copy is also
available on the NCPA web site under the “Convention” link.
The proposed changes refer to the method used by the Association to
select arbitrators. All
members and guests are invited to attend the meeting of the Rules
Committee, and anyone may offer comment on the proposed changes.
The Rules Committee will consider the proposed changes and vote
whether or not to recommend them to the membership. The By-Laws and
General Rules may be amended by a majority vote by the regular members
present and voting at any annual meeting…..The generosity of members and
guests have made the awarding of prizes
at the annual convention a highlight of each meeting.
General meeting attendance, spouse luncheon and golf prizes will be
awarded this year. If you wish
to join the tradition this year, please be sure your prize or a
description of it, is sent to the NCPA office no
later than Friday, April 21.
If you wish to give cash, please make your check payable to the
NCPA…..A continental breakfast will be available this year prior to the
Monday morning business session. The
business session will begin promptly at 8:30am and will feature a number
of “must-see” presentations. NCPA’s
newly revised video, “Cottonseed” The Inside Story” will be shown,
and reports will be given by National Cotton Council Chairman Allen Helms,
World Weather President Drew Learner, and USDA Ag Research Service
Aflatoxin expert Dr. Peter Cotty. Also,
NCPA President Robert Lacy will address the membership and NCPA staff will
provide updates of Association activities and finances.
COTTONSEED
DVD NOW AVAILABLE - NCPA’s popular video “Cottonseed: The
Inside Story” has been updated and revised to keep it fresh and as
popular as ever. The video
introduces viewers to the many products made from cottonseed and briefly
explains why, for example, cottonseed
oil has become even more popular with the concern
regarding trans fatty acids, and why cottonseed meal is so widely
discussed as an organic fertilizer.
Orders from elementary school
as well as ag extension teachers were waiting to be filled as soon as the
new DVD’s were burned. A
complimentary copy of the DVD will be available to the membership
attending the annual meeting, or members may request a complimentary copy
be mailed. Additional copies
are available for purchase from the Association. The video was digitized
to make future upgrades faster and cleaner.
New, updated soundtracks and voice-overs were added.
In addition, edits were made to the text of the video.
A one-minute introductory clip of the video has been posted to the
NCPA web site and may be previewed by members and the general public.
WHAT'S
NEW @ COTTONSEED.COM - USDA slightly decreased its projection
for the 2005-06 cottonseed crush, from 3.1 million tons forecast in
February to 3.075 million tons forecast this month.
The reduction in crush is projected to go as feed.
As would follow, production numbers for cottonseed meal and oil
were reduced. USDA is using
product yields—901 lbs/ton for meal and 315 for oil—based on
historical averages which lead to under-estimating actual
production this season. Weekly cottonseed crushings for the period
ending April 9 were 64,028 tons, nearly 7% higher than the previous week
and almost 15% above the five-year average for period 36 during the
season. As the graph below shows, only four times in the past 13 weeks has
this season’s weekly crush fallen below the five year average.
Complete details of weekly cottonseed crushings are available in
the Statistics
section…..A preview of “Cottonseed:
The Inside Story”
is available on the NCPA web site. A
complimentary copy is available to members and additional copies may be
ordered from the Association office…..Convention news, Trading Rules
changes and updates,
registration lists and convention prizes will be updated and available on
the Convention
link.
